Dear Friend, This spring has been filled with activities and engagement throughout our community. As we continue our mission to empower our clients, I am excited to share some highlights from our recent initiatives, including the release of our 2023 Annual Report and the powerful story of our client Carolina, whose life has changed from facing deportation to now awaiting protection under the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA). Recent initiatives such as the National Day of Action, outreach activities at Mission Milby, and a joint naturalization workshop have provided essential legal services and advocacy to assist immigrants in our community. Thanks to your continuous support, JFAI can continue to deliver immigration legal services and advocacy to our community. With Gratitude, Joy Green Executive Director Justice for all Immigrants |

Carolina: From Asylum Seeker to Securing Protection Under VAWA Carolina fled her home country due to oppressive religious doctrines to seek asylum in the United States. Unfortunately, her request was denied, which led to her facing removal proceedings in immigration court. During her stay, she endured emotional and physical abuse from her U.S. citizen husband. Despite challenges, she applied for protection under the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), though her case remains pending. While facing deportation, Carolina found assistance at Justice for all Immigrants. After extensive negotiations with immigration officials, JFAI got her deportation proceedings dismissed. Carolina is now free from the immediate fear of deportation and waiting for a decision on her VAWA application. *Name and photo changed for privacy reasons. |

JFAI and Partners Host Naturalization Workshop Supporting Citizenship Dreams In a collaborative effort to support the immigrant community, a group of attorneys and volunteers from JFAI, BakerRipley, the Galveston-Houston Immigrant Representation Project (GHIRP), and the Tahirih Justice Center gathered at the BakerRipley Pasadena Campus to conduct a joint naturalization workshop to assist eligible immigrants with their citizenship applications and provide support in navigating the naturalization process. Throughout the workshop, participants received hands-on assistance from volunteers and attorneys, helping applicants complete and prepare their applications for submission to USCIS. This initiative is part of JFAI's commitment to offering legal services to individuals in Harris County on their path to citizenship. If you or someone you know could benefit from these services, please contact us at 713-545-6470 to schedule an appointment. |
