Dear Friend,

As the leaves begin to turn, September has ushered into a season of positive transition for us at Justice for all Immigrants (JFAI). This month, we engaged in impactful activities: from the Immigration Law & Justice Network (ILJ) Roundtable conference to advocating for the Domestic Violence Assistance Fund at the Harris County Commissioners Court to celebrating Citizenship Day with a dynamic workshop that was filled with community support, learning, and empowerment.

We also concluded our Big Give 2024 campaign this month to support our Unaccompanied Children’s Program. We would like to express our sincere appreciation to our dedicated fundraisers and supporters for helping us make a significant difference. This month, we also highlight Administrative Assistant, Karina, whose indispensable role has vividly supported the success of our mission.

Our journey continues, and we encourage you to stay involved with JFAI, whether through volunteering, advocating for immigrant rights, or sharing your stories. Your engagement is vital to our community and strengthens our collective effort.

We look forward to more opportunities to celebrate, engage, and grow together.

With Gratitude,

Joy Green

My Dream of Serving in the Air Force

After enduring abandonment and dangers in Honduras, Amy found hope through JFAI upon relocating to San Antonio. Not only did she receive essential legal aid, but she also embarked on a path to a brighter future.

With the swift and professional efforts of JFAI's team, Amy's Suit Affecting the Parent-Child Relationship (SAPCR) case was expedited, securing a judge's signature right before her 18th birthday. JFAI also helped close her immigration court case, paving her way to permanent residency.

Today, Amy looks forward to obtaining her high school diploma. "I can now see my dream of serving in the Air Force," she shares. Her aspirations include graduating with honors and, one day, starting her own family. She encourages those hesitant to seek help, emphasizing JFAI's role as a haven that fosters success. "JFAI provided amazing support, making me feel secure. You will be safe," she assures.

Meet Karina, Our Ace Administrative Assistant

Karina Espinoza joined JFAI in 2017, inspired by her family’s migration stories and a desire to make a meaningful impact. As an Administrative Assistant, she plays a significant role in daily operations, ensuring clients feel welcomed and supported while managing tasks like scheduling and processing donations.

Despite the challenges of working in immigration services, Karina finds the rewards far outweigh the hardships, with the joy of seeing clients achieve legal status fueling her dedication. She values the supportive environment at JFAI and is proud of the impact she has made as the organization continues to grow.

JFAI Advocates for the Domestic Violence Assistance Fund at
Harris County Commissioners Court

On September 10, JFAI's Executive Director Joy Green and Managing Attorney Gabriela Lopez-Compean stood with community leaders at the Harris County Commissioners Court, advocating for the continuation of the Domestic Violence Assistance Fund. Their plea emphasized the crucial role these funds play in helping survivors of domestic violence find stability, safety, and independence. This effort demonstrates JFAI’s dedication to empowering some of the most vulnerable individuals in our community.

Successful Citizenship Day Workshop at the King's Palace

On September 14th, JFAI’s workshop celebrating Citizenship Day at the Redeemed Christian Church of God: King's Palace in Katy, TX, was a success. We provided support to many Harris County residents on their journey to citizenship. Thanks to the collaborative efforts of our partners—BakerRipley, the Galveston-Houston Immigrant Representation Project (GHIRP), the Tahirih Justice Center, the Earl Carl Institute for Legal and Social Policy, Inc., and Attorney Olubusayo Fasidi.

Participants engaged with our team to prepare and submit their citizenship applications, taking an essential step toward their futures in the United States. This event has reinforced community connections, emphasizing the critical role of accessible support services in the citizenship process.

This impactful program was made possible through the generous support from Harris County Housing and Community Development (HCD).

Thank you to all our partners and participants for making this Citizenship Day event a triumph!

JFAI Shines at the Sunrise Center’s Open House

On September 18th, JFAI took part in an Open House hosted by the Sunrise Center at Mission Milby CDC. Our team engaged with attendees eager to learn about immigration legal services, offering insights and guidance to all who visited our booth.

We are appreciative of the dynamic participants and other organizations that joined the event. A special shoutout to all who stopped by to explore the services JFAI offers, which gives us a chance to assist and empower immigrants in their journey toward citizenship

Big Give 2024: A Resounding Success by Our Stellar P2P Fundraisers

This year's Big Give demonstrated community and kindness, raising $7,645 to support the ongoing efforts of JFAI's Unaccompanied Children Program. We extend our gratitude to all who participated, especially our devoted Peer-to-Peer (P2P) fundraisers, who went above and beyond to make this event a triumph.

Dan Freeman led the way with a remarkable contribution, making a significant reach on our campaign. Sandy Rogers' passionate advocacy was pivotal to our success, while the JFAI Board of Directors demonstrated strong leadership with their collective support. Suzanne F. Isaacs enhanced our reach with her strategic and enthusiastic support, and Miguel Padilla’s participation made every contribution count in our fight for justice. Joy Green, our inspiring leader, drove our organization toward its goals through her efforts.

For this year's Big Give, the achievements of our P2P fundraisers are more than just funds raised; they are about the community built around our shared goals. Thank you to everyone who made this year's Big Give a landmark event!

Visa Restrictions on Senior Officials of a Charter Flight Company Facilitating Irregular Migration to the United States

The United States has imposed visa restrictions on senior officials of a European charter flight company for facilitating irregular migration to the United States via Nicaragua. These measures target those profiting from vulnerable migrants, including private and public sector individuals. This action, part of a broader initiative under section 212(a)(3)(C) of the Immigration and Nationality Act, applies globally and affects those eligible for the Visa Waiver Program.
