Dear Friend,

The shifting landscape of immigration policies continues to cause uncertainty and fear in our community. Recent executive orders and policy changes have intensified challenges for immigrant families, making access to legal protection more urgent than ever. At Justice for all Immigrants (JFAI), we see the anxiety these changes bring, but we also see the strength and resilience of those we serve. Amid the situations, our mission remains clear: to provide critical legal support, education, and advocacy so that immigrants are informed, protected, and empowered.

In response to this tense climate, JFAI has expanded legal consultations, increased Know Your Rights sessions, and strengthened our partnerships to ensure more immigrants receive the legal help they need. Through community outreach events, citizenship workshops, and direct legal representation, we are working tirelessly to stand beside those facing uncertainty. Every case we take on is more than just legal work—it is a step toward stability, dignity, and security for families in need.

This work is only possible because of you—our supporters, donors, and advocates. Your generosity fuels our ability to fight for justice, educate communities, and offer hope in challenging times. Every contribution, no matter the size, ensures that families stay together, children find safety, and individuals have a chance to thrive. Thank you for standing with us. Together, we are making a difference—one case, one family, and one life at a time.

In Appreciation,

Joy Green

Finding Hope Through Legal Support: Sedalia’s Story

When Sedalia came to the United States two decades ago from Mexico, she hoped for a better future for her children. But in recent years, she found herself trapped in a difficult situation—struggling financially, caring for her children, and living in fear due to escalating violence from her mentally disabled son. As an undocumented immigrant, she feared that seeking help could lead to deportation.

Her breakthrough came when a Methodist church in Floresville, Texas, connected her with JFAI. After one call, Daniella Salas-Chacon, an attorney in JFAI’s San Antonio office, took on her case at no cost. Overwhelmed with relief, Sedalia broke down in tears. “Finally, someone was listening and guiding me forward,” Sedalia shares.

Though her Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) case is still pending, a recent U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) letter offers hope for approval. With JFAI’s support, she no longer fears calling the police for help, knowing she has some protection. Most importantly, she is now securing long-term care for her son, something she once felt powerless to do.

Sedalia’s dream is simple but powerful: to secure a work permit, provide for her family, and eventually buy a home where they can feel safe. "JFAI gave me hope," she says. "One day, I want to be able to give back and help others the way they helped me."

Her story is proof of the transformative impact of legal aid. With donor support, JFAI can continue helping immigrants like Sedalia find safety and stability.

Liz Williams – Six Years of Supporting Immigrant Justice

For Liz Williams, JFAI is personal but also about community. She first learned about the organization when Isabella,* the daughter of an immigrant friend she knew, was deported. “It was a complicated case; as I remember, she had no real country to go back to. JFAI helped bring her home back to her mother,” Liz shared. That experience opened her eyes to the critical role of legal services in keeping families together, inspiring her to become a dedicated supporter.

A native Houstonian, Liz has witnessed the evolving immigrant landscape in Texas. She recognizes both the complexity of navigating the immigration process and the undeniable contributions immigrants make to society. “People come here seeking a better life, and they deserve a fair chance.” For over six years, Liz has supported JFAI’s legal services, knowing they provide a lifeline for those who cannot afford private attorneys.

Liz’s generosity is driven by her belief in fairness and opportunity. “If you care about justice, if you believe people deserve a chance, then supporting JFAI is one of the most effective ways to make a difference.” She urges others to step up and give, ensuring more families receive the legal help they need, especially during this tough time.

Join Liz in making a difference—donate today to help immigrants find safety, stability, and a future.

Community Advisory Meeting Explores Solutions for Immigrant Communities

On February 5, JFAI attorney Gabriela López-Compeán participated in the Community Advisory Meeting organized by the Kinder Institute for Urban Research. Gabriela joined community leaders to discuss key challenges and opportunities impacting immigrant communities.

The meeting provided a collaborative space to address pressing issues, share insights, and explore data-driven solutions for policies affecting immigrants and the broader community. Gabriela emphasized the significance of these conversations, stating, "When we come together as advocates, researchers, and community leaders, we create a stronger, more informed network that can drive meaningful change for immigrant families."

The Kinder Institute for Urban Research, a respected Houston-based think tank, focuses on using research and policy analysis to address urban challenges, including immigration. JFAI is proud to collaborate in these critical discussions to ensure immigrant voices are represented in advocacy and policy planning.

Supporting Immigrants at Citizenship Fair

JFAI took part in the Citizenship Community Help Fair hosted by the Alief Independent School District on February 7. The event provided the opportunity for eligible green card holders to receive assistance in their journey toward U.S. citizenship.

The team was on hand to assist attendees in completing naturalization applications and fee waiver requests, ensuring that legal and financial barriers did not stand in the way of their citizenship goals. In collaboration with Alief ISD staff, the team worked efficiently to screen applicants, complete forms, and manage the check-out process.

Know Your Rights Webinar with JFAI

In response to growing concerns over shifting immigration policies and executive orders, JFAI hosted a Know Your Rights webinar for individuals, agencies, partners, and churches. This virtual session delivered crucial legal information and guidance to help immigrants navigate the evolving landscape under the new administration.

The webinar equipped attendees with knowledge about their rights and protections. Joy Green, JFAI's Executive Director, emphasized the importance of staying informed, stating, "In uncertain times, knowledge is power. Our goal is to ensure that immigrants and their advocates understand their rights and feel empowered to navigate these policy changes."

Escalation of ICE Raids Impacting Industries

The administration's increased ICE raids and deportations have significantly disrupted industries reliant on migrant labor. Frequent detentions of undocumented workers have led to labor shortages in sectors like construction, food services, and healthcare. This has caused operational challenges for businesses and heightened fear within immigrant communities.

Refugee Resettlement Programs Order Layoffs Across Texas

A federal funding freeze has led to mass layoffs across refugee resettlement programs in Texas.
