Dear Friend,

The last few weeks have brought new waves of uncertainty for immigrant communities. Federal funding cuts, harsh enforcement measures, and policy shifts are deepening the challenges that countless families already face. For some, it means losing access to legal representation. For others, it’s the fear of being separated from loved ones—or the dream of citizenship slipping further away.

At Justice for all Immigrants (JFAI), we feel the weight of this moment, but we also feel something more substantial: RESOLVE. We remain grounded in our mission to provide legal support, advocacy, and hope to those who need it most. Whether it’s helping someone complete their citizenship application, defending a child in court, or simply explaining their rights, we are here, for those who walk through our doors.

This work is only possible with your support. As we face new challenges—such as the sudden loss of federal funding for our Unaccompanied Children Program—we ask you to continue standing with us. Your donations, volunteer hours, and words of encouragement are not just helpful; they are essential. Together, we can ensure that justice doesn’t depend on who you are or where you come from.

From all of us at JFAI—thank you for standing with us.

In Appreciation,

Joy Green
Executive Director
Justice for all Immigrants

Trump Administration Halts Funding for Legal Aid for Migrant Children

In mid-March 2025, the Trump administration terminated funding for the Unaccompanied Children Program, which provided legal representation to over 26,000 migrant children navigating the U.S. immigration system. This decision means many children may now face immigration proceedings without legal assistance, raising significant concerns among advocacy groups about their ability to receive fair hearings.

Earlier this month, Lorny walked into our office with joy in her eyes as we handed her green cards for herself and her four children. After nearly 10 years of navigating the U.S. immigration system with JFAI, they are now proud lawful permanent residents. What once felt impossible is now real: safety, stability, and a future they can build together.

Originally from Honduras, Lorny fled life-threatening circumstances to protect her family. In the United States, she faced exploitation and fear until she found support through JFAI. With our help, she secured asylum status and avoided deportation. Today, she leads a cleaning team at a medical practice, with her oldest daughter working alongside her to support their family.

Lorny’s story is why we do this work. Every win like this is made possible by people like you. Help us continue fighting for families like hers—donate today. We are here to stand by our clients every step of the way.

Sandy and friends at Laughs for Legal Aid 2024

Driven by Compassion: Sandy’s Commitment to Supporting Immigrants

Sandy’s journey with JFAI reflects a heart rooted in compassion and a mind committed to justice. Originally from northern Maryland, Sandy grew up surrounded by diverse cultures and languages, which instilled in her a deep appreciation for the richness immigrants bring to the American experience. Having lived in San Antonio for more than half of her life, Sandy has continued to embrace this diversity. Her life experiences, from collaborating with colleagues from Egypt, Vietnam, and Tanzania to witnessing her Maryland neighbors come from Ethiopia and Guyana, have shown her that America thrives on the strength of its diversity.

When Sandy joined the San Antonio Fundraising Committee, it was a leap of trust inspired by a friend. What she discovered was far greater—a community united by a mission to support immigrants navigating complex legal systems. Throughout her volunteer journey with the committee, Sandy has been overwhelmed by the generosity and positivity of those who share JFAI’s vision. This outpouring of support fuels her determination, especially as government cutbacks continue to threaten essential services for immigrant families.

With a goal of raising $25,000 this year for Laughs for Legal Aid 2025 to support the Unaccompanied Children Program, Sandy is unwavering. “This work can’t stop,” she says firmly. “If funding is reduced, it’s up to us to ensure that families seeking safety and stability receive the legal help they need.” Her message is clear: Be part of the change. Join us in making a lasting impact for immigrant families.

Supporting Black and African Immigrants on the Path to Citizenship

JFAI partnered with AfriPAC, BakerRipley, Harris County Housing & Community Development, and the Black LGBTQ Migrant Project, for the Empowering African & Black Immigrant Communities Naturalization & Citizenship Workshop at the Alief Community Center on March 1. The event offered attendees guidance on citizenship applications, fee waivers, Know Your Rights, and civic engagement.

Participants connected with legal advocates and received culturally informed support through every step of the naturalization process.

“For many immigrants, the path to citizenship can be filled with obstacles—whether financial, legal, or procedural,” said Joy Green, JFAI’s Executive Director. “We’re committed to making this process more accessible and helping every eligible person achieve their dream of U.S. citizenship.”

Sharing Immigration Resources with Families at Deady Middle School

On March 2, JFAI joined the community at Fair Haven Church for a Know Your Rights presentation organized by Deady Middle School. Gabriela Lopez-Compean, Managing Attorney, led the session, offering vital information and resources to immigrant families, students, and attendees seeking guidance on their rights. Gabriela also took part in the “Coffee with the Principal” session, creating space for open dialogue and community connection. It was a meaningful opportunity to educate and empower families navigating uncertain times.

“It’s always an honor to stand beside families and help them feel informed, seen, and supported. Knowledge is a powerful shield.” — Gabriela Lopez-Compean.

JFAI Joins Naturalize Now Stakeholder Meeting to Support New Citizens

Joy Green and Esther Oni attended the Naturalize Now Quarterly Stakeholder Meeting hosted by Office of Commissioner Lesley Briones, Precinct 4, on March 6. The gathering united local leaders and partner organizations to strengthen efforts that help immigrants and refugees become U.S. citizens.

Commissioner Briones reaffirmed her commitment to expanding access to legal and educational resources for immigrant communities. “It was a great event that highlighted the importance of collaboration in supporting immigrants,” said Esther. “These conversations help us ensure that immigrant families have what they need to succeed.”

We are proud to be part of this ongoing work and grateful to all who continue to champion pathways to citizenship in our communities.

Community Comes Together for Free Citizenship Workshop

On March 22, JFAI, in partnership with GHIRP, Harris County Precinct 4, Commissioner Lesley Briones, and Tahirih Justice Center, hosted a free Citizenship Workshop at  Burnett Bayland Community Center. The event welcomed eligible green card holders seeking guidance on the naturalization process. The event featured an informative group session followed by one-on-one consultations to help participants complete their citizenship applications and explore fee waiver options.
This initiative was made possible through funding from Harris County Housing and Community Development (HCD) , which is committed to immigrant empowerment. Attendees arrived and left with a clearer path toward U.S. citizenship, supported by experienced attorneys and volunteers.
“This workshop was about more than paperwork—it was about restoring confidence and showing families they don’t have to walk this journey alone,” said Esther Oni, Staff Attorney. “We’re proud to stand with our partners and bring these life-changing resources directly into the community.”
