| Dear Friend, As the vibrant holiday season approaches, we are reminded of the connection it brings— a time for gratitude, reflection, and hope. This October, Justice for all Immigrants (JFAI) remains committed to delivering our legal services, outreach, and education efforts and tirelessly providing support and resources for immigrants in need. Through workshops and community events, we inspire one another to connect, educate, and advocate for justice. This month, we celebrate Maricela, a 49-year-old mother who waited two decades to become a U.S. citizen and took her oath of allegiance just last month. Her inspiring journey exemplifies the hope that drives our mission. We also want to spotlight the leadership provided by our board members, whose efforts have been instrumental in empowering JFAI’s vision. Looking ahead, we are preparing for Giving Tuesday 2024 and hope to build on the tremendous support we received from friends and supporters last year. As we move forward, let’s carry the spirit of compassion and empowerment into our efforts and foster a sense of belonging within our community. Thank you for your dedication to our mission. With Gratitude, Joy Green Executive Director Justice for all Immigrants |
| | Maricela Becomes a U.S. Citizen after 20 Years of Waiting Maricela, a 49-year-old woman originally from Mexico, recently received U.S. naturalized citizenship after over a decade as a green card holder, with comprehensive legal assistance from JFAI. Maricela learned about JFAI at a community event hosted by Mission Milby Community Development Corporation. Frustrated by previous unresponsive attorneys, she found support from JFAI, which helped her navigate the complex citizenship process. JFAI not only assisted Maricela with the intricate paperwork required for citizenship but also provided legal representation during her interview. "I was extremely nervous, but once my attorney arrived, I felt much more at ease and confident," she reflects. Achieving citizenship has significantly transformed Maricela's life as a store’s assistant manager and a mother of three U.S. citizen children. She enthusiastically endorses JFAI, recognizing its crucial support and educational outreach within the Latino community. Maricela took her Oath of Allegiance during a ceremony on September 4th, certifying her U.S. naturalization and underscoring JFAI's legal support. The photo was changed for privacy reasons. |

| | | Spotlight on Leadership: Holly's Inspiring Journey with JFAI Holly Hudley's journey with Justice for All Immigrants (JFAI) began six years ago when a friend invited her to an event that highlighted critical issues facing immigrant communities. With a strong background in education and a passion for immigration reform, she recognized the urgent need for equal access to opportunities for all students, regardless of their immigration status. Her commitment was deepened by her experiences working with immigrant populations in schools, where she witnessed the struggles of undocumented students navigating the college application process and the complexities of DACA. As Holly engaged more with JFAI, she observed the organization's remarkable growth and transformation. "I think the leadership is much steadier and efficient. The mission has expanded, and I'm excited that we've grown into San Antonio," she shares. Beyond her board responsibilities, Holly actively contributes financially and builds connections within the community, staying attuned to the challenges immigrant families face. In her work, Holly emphasizes the importance of improving access to services for long-term undocumented individuals amid rising concerns in the Greater Houston Area. She envisions a future for JFAI that continues providing high-quality legal support while strengthening partnerships with community organizations to ensure thorough care in areas like mental health and housing. As she approaches the end of her term, Holly is determined to leaving JFAI with stronger community connections and a clear mission, serving as a powerful reminder of the impact one individual can make in the fight for justice, and we are profoundly grateful for her leadership and vision. |

| | The United States Won't Extend Legal Status for 530,000 Migrants Who Arrived Under Biden Program The Biden administration announced it will not extend legal status for hundreds of thousands of migrants who arrived under the (Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela) CHNV sponsorship program, requiring them to seek legal status through other channels or leave the United States This decision has drawn criticism from immigration advocates who argue it unfairly treats these migrants compared to Afghan and Ukrainian evacuees who received extended protections. While some may qualify for Temporary Protected Status or asylum, many will face precarious legal situations without work authorization. This shift reflects the administration's broader strategy to curb illegal crossings through recent asylum restrictions, leaving the future of the CHNV program uncertain amid ongoing Republican opposition.
